Goats

Goats have been at Emley Show for many years, they are very popular both with competitors and visitors alike.
Goat classes at Emley are held under the rules and regulations of the British Goat Society www.britishgoatsociety.com . There is a great atmosphere in the tent and exhibitors are keen to share their vast knowledge about their adorable, and sometime mischievous animals.
Goats at Emley Show arrive long before the visitors and have to be tucked up by 18.00 on the evening before the show as judging starts at 06.30 on show morning, making this one of the busiest categories at the show.
Entry is open to anyone, as long as your animal is registered with the British Goat Society, and our section secretary Chris Hagain will be receiving entries very soon.
We look forward to seeing you in the tent.

Please read the Goat Section details below before downloading your entry form.

Judge:- Mrs H Matthews

The goat classes are held under the rules, regulation and recognition of the British Goat Society. Whilst the owners do not need to be members of the British Goat Society, all exhibits must be registered with the British Goat Society, as in the ownership and in the name of the exhibitor, the registered name, number and identification mark being quoted on the entry form plus the date of birth and the last kidding day for goats in milk. No entries will be accepted unless CAE blood test results are on BGS submission forms, sorry but this show is unable to accept any other health scheme. Entries for all exhibits under 12 months must be accompanied by the necessary valid certificate for the dams. The CAE certificate must have been issued within the previous 12 months from the date of the show.

Goats in milk, must have kidded a minimum of 30 clear days prior to the show. No pregnant goats may be admitted to the showground. In the event of an unforeseen kidding or abortion, the animal must be immediately isolated from all other animals, and the on-call Vet summoned. Full details of the animal, exhibitor and action taken must be reported in writing by the chief steward to the BGS secretary immediately after the show.

Exhibitors are advised that milk produced at the show MUST not be fed to any goat, of any age as this appears to have been a factor in the spread of CAE in the past.  Entries will be restricted to goats from herds that are WHOLE HERD NEGATIVE CAE TESTED within the last 12 months prior to the show. Whole herd negative means the entire herd of goats, registered or un-registered which are over 12 months hold a current CAE negative test certificate and all kids must be progeny of a CAE negative dam on the CAE test form.

JUDGES COMMENTS:

Some wonderful views from this small show held in the shadow of the Emley Moor TV transmitter. My best in show, Treflor Roxanne, is a Saanen of excellent breed type, wonderful capacity and a good yield of milk. Ardross Honey is a neat and well-presented goat, milking well with neat teats and a well attached udder. In the youngstock classes the Saanen, Treflor Ria caught my eye – a similar type animal to her stablemate, Roxanne. Ardross Kallisto is a large, rangy and capacious British Saanen goatling was a very worthy reserve. In the kid classes, Marshvalley Evolet was my choice for best kid. In super condition, she is of excellent breed type and well grown. Reserve to Evolet was Treflor Roisin, a Saanen with excellent spring of rib, capacity and a strong back end.
